Monthly Social Shindigs

Social Shindigs run from 7pm to 10pm alternately at St Patrick’s Church Hall in Newport and The Drill Hall in Chepstow. They’re open to all Side Kicks classes, dancers from other groups and newcomers who’d like to check us out.

Party nights to celebrate the dances we’ve learned so far this term, and there might possibly be some golden oldies lurking on the playlist too. There’s no pre-booking and no tickets: just turn up and pay £10 cash or card on the door.

  • The Drill Hall, Chepstow socials are on Monday nights. Bring your own drinks and nibbles.
  • St Patrick’s Church Hall, Newport socials are on Wednesday nights. The last one at the Lysaght Institute is on 18 November, and the first at St Patrick’s will be early in the new year.

Dates are in the events list below.

Which Class Suits Me?

Everyone starts somewhere. Here’s what to expect from each class.

Class 1

From Scratch

For all new, absolute beginner dancers wishing to join the group. We learn all the basic steps, tune into the essence of line dancing and enjoy the easier routines. All dances are taught for at least two or three weeks and then walked through at each session, so no-one is left to flounder!

Class 2

The Next Step

For dancers with a little experience. Slightly more involved dances to explore the steps we’ve already learned and expand on technique. Dances are taught over a few weeks and then mostly recalled well enough not to need walking through each week (barring the inevitable reminders!).

Class 3

A Step Further

Suitable for the more seasoned dancer. Longer and more involved routines are taught in this class for those who are completely hooked and want a gentle challenge.

On hold

Seated Class

Currently on hold. For those with limited mobility, whether through long-term illness, temporary ailments or ex-dancers who have reached a certain age! We explore posture and breathing, so important for anyone who spends a lot of time sitting, and stomp and clap along to uplifting tracks from our classes to feel so much better within the hour.
